PERTHSHIRE ORGANIC MEAT & POULTRY SUPPLIER

We are delighted to be working with Sascha & Hugh Grierson at Newmiln Farm in Perthshire. Some of you may have tasted Sascha’s chickens since they have been making their way to Grow Wild over recent months. The whole range is cheaper than our previous supplier, so we would encourage you to try this most delicious meat and poultry. Why not add a whole chicken to your regular order and get a few fantastically tasty dinners out of it?

A LOCAL BREAD SUPPLIER  (at long last…and it’s delicious!)

It has been a long time coming, but we are delighted to let you know that we have negotiated a fresh bread supply from Hedgerow Bakery in Stoneyburn. Paul, the baker, has just set up his new premises, and will be supplying us from the week of January 30th. The loaves will be baked overnight and delivered fresh to us on the morning of your delivery – doesn’t really get any better!

Paul uses organic ingredients, and is underway with the certification process with SOPA to get his organic license, although these things do take time. I couldn’t recommend these products more highly and do hope you would like to have some delivered along with your regular box.

Obviously if you add a loaf or two to your regular order, we’ll get it ordered up for you, and you won’t need to get in touch every week! We are happy to start taking bread orders now for the week of 30thJanuary to get the whole thing moving and give Paul and idea of how many loaves he’s going to have to bake for us each day!

Sadly, Blackmount Foods ceased trading just after the Christmas season 2011. We have been working with Alex at Blackmount for many years now, and are extremely sorry to lose him as a supplier since his meat and poultry has always been absolutely delicious. We wish him all the best - he contimues to farm his land and rear organic stock, so i am sure some of it may land on our plates through the supply chain.

Recipes..

Check our new recipes section for anything you might have in your box this week!

Grow Wild Growing..

We are now busy making plans for the future too. We have several acres of land in organic conversion so that over the next while, we can start harvesting even closer to home.

The produce..

Last year, the produce was wonderful, pouring in from local growers, and supplemented for those who like the stuff that can’t be grown here with imported produce. The Grow Wild stance on local versus organic is this: we would much prefer to supply you with an organic apple brought in from France, than a local one treated with 40 different chemicals before it gets to you!  We are very happy to have UK apples still, so enjoy while they last!

We do seem to be battling the winds and getting produce in and out to you as usual, and we are now to brave the more root and winter veg until we start to see the green shoots in the springtime!

Festivities..

Grow Wild had a great run up to Christmas and everything went smoothly - we always stress at that time of year, worrying that we might get an order wrong when there is so much going on - but thankfully, nothing but compliments this year. Thank you for your lovely feedback, and thanks to all staff who played an important part in getting everything to the right place at the right time!

We have some fantastic Scottish organic trout products from the Cairngorm Smokehouse. We are really pleased to be able to offer these fantastic products – Lindsay tasted them last summer when the smokehouse was just getting its organic lines off the ground. Delfour Fine Foods is based at a small, family run hatchery at the base of the Monadhliath Mountains, where the fish are grown to the highest welfare standards. Highly prized by anglers, brown trout are only farmed in very small numbers due to their wild and slow growing nature. The fish are hand selected and smoked using traditional skills resulting in these fantastic Highland products.
